Day 5 Desperation Breeds Defeat

Thought for the day: No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
The author was walking through he airport & smelled the fresh batch of carmel corn in the candy store. She began to rationalize buying this special treat thinking I cant get this at home, I will take half of it home to my kids. In that moment , a new truth God had taught her during her healthy eating journey came to mine: desperation breeds defeat. The story of Esau & Jacob in the Bible talk about the older brother hunting but catching nothing but starving demanded stew from his brother who then said you must trade me your birth rite. The older son being so hungry agreed. Giving up his birth rite for a simple meal of stew. This seems ridiculous but what great things have I traded for so little in return. How often do I trade healthy food for junk food? What temporary pleasure have I craved so much that I gave up lasting victory? Desperation does indeed breed defeat. But God promises answers for desperate situation in 1 Corinthians 10:13.
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he will provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
The way out that God provides is the ability to decide in advance what I will & will not eat each day. I plan my meals right after breakfast when Im feeling full & satisfied. Dont decide what to eat after you have waited so long & you are starving you will grab the first & easiest thing. Prepare healthy snacks to have on hand or keep in your purse.
She says lets be clear, she isnt saying you should flee food. However we must prevent the control hat food can take over our lives. If we purposely begin to think before we eat , we'll be better able to see the way out that God promises when we are tempted.
